Personality

Confident - Loyal - Charming - Observant - Stubborn

Asari is incredibly confident in themselves. In some sense, it can be charming, but they only aim to charm those they wish. They enjoy meeting new people and learning all they can about them quickly, always wanting to be in the know. Though they like to learn about other people, they aren’t one to divulge information about themselves. They will eat up any bit of gossip one will allow them to hear, and will see what they can do with it.

They are at most, chaotic, in the core of their personality. They are prideful and like to live in the spotlight when it comes to compliments or attention, as well as being able to assume positions or places where they are able to benefit from it. While more than willing to start a fight if they feel threatened or provoked enough, they aren’t someone who would resort to violence as a first option. They can be loud and abrasive, and sometimes don’t fully consider the choice of words until after the damage has already been dealt.

Despite this, they are wary enough to know when they are in the wrong and will, usually, reluctantly admit it if it becomes a large problem. They don’t like being in the wrong, but they also don’t like being the one in the spotlight if they are being villainized for their actions or opinions.

They have a strong distrust in most people, and associate most strangers or comrades from a distance, but they aren’t against co-operating. It may seem as though they don’t care but in reality, they appreciate when someone shows kindness and affection, and will become loyal to those who build that trust and move past their spiky exterior. It becomes much easier to tell how they feel about someone when they are in mortal danger or are threatened, since it’s unlikely they will let it slip unless they have to.

<aside> đź’ˇ Their personal code involves the following tenets:

(1) If there is someone more beautiful than me, I will strive to become more beautiful.

(2) If I made someone cry because I went too far, I would rather stop.

(3) If there is someone who is undeserving of their power or position, I would help a cause to rightfully punish them.

(4) Thought I seek personal gains, I will not deny if karma strikes me down for my misdeeds.

Quori

Gilgamesh is a quori spirit who has been aiding the Ehn-ha family for several generations. He is a Hashalaq quori who often served as an advisor and mentor to his Kalashtar hosts, strengthening their minds and synergizing with themselves so they can live their best lives. Mortals can only live for so long, and Gilgamesh seeks to provide abilities and wisdom to ensure his Kalashtars are capable of dealing with any situation calmly and logically. His main goal for his hosts is to allow them to live their lives to the fullest while also being able to adapt quickly and efficiently should trouble arise, but has stern responses for people who wave off efforts and hard work for nothing.

Gilgamesh has studied mortal behavior and as well as the flow of energy and magic that resides within his hosts and the realm they live in. This energy can be synergized to acquire attunement with a form of spirituality with the world, effectively manifesting forms of elements and even flight. While the usage of these “treasures”, as Gilgamesh refers to them as, is dependent on the mastery of his hosts, Gilgamesh often shares these skills in hopes his Kalashtars may understand the world they live in better, and in turn, better themselves as well.

Backstory

TLDR - Azari came from the village of Uruk as the sole child of the Ehn’ha family, following the bloodline of Gilgamesh and had connections to higher ranking Kalashtars in the main city of Honbira (Illari). The bond with Azari and Gilgamesh had its differences and their personalities clashed here and there. While Azari was able to maintain most of their position as a performer for the family, another family, the Eanna family, specifically Vermillion, started targeting Azari (as their respective quori spirits are rivals and detest each other). It got to the point where Vermillion, as the higher rank (and able to get away with a lot of things) convinced a stubborn Azari to leave the position and “find fame elsewhere” (as her goal was to get rid of Azari, and effectively, Gilgamesh). Azari ends up adventuring to keep something to pay for their needs as well as build up their ki and martial abilities.

And through it all, I’ll prevail. For everyone that ever cared. For you. For me.

Azari is the only child of the Ehn’ha family - situated in the village of Uruk, northwest from the main city Ilari in Honbira, closer to the coastal shores. The considerably large village houses roughly a hundred citizens contained almost entirely of Kalashtars, with very few Sirens and even less Orcs due to the influx of Kalashtars here. Uruk is home to the people who worship the Path of Light, and live their days to pay respects and adopt cultural festivals and rituals for the quoris their future kin may call upon into their bodies. They worshipped the living as easily as they respected the dead, and often used a variety of items and behavior to properly rest the dead, as their village was located by a small but constantly returning rift of the Shadowfell. As their people did not know the full details behind the planar rift, they typically referred to it as the home of Kur - the land of the underworld. Spirits of the dead and negative energy would sometimes leak out and they normally needed a priestess to thwart the energy as it came.

They treat powerful quoris and well known bloodlines with a high amount of respect, and Azari at the time was raised to be the perfect host for a coming quori ritual from a young age. However, even as a child, Azari had difficulty adopting the standard activities and expectations from them, assuming their position was only because of the bloodline they possessed, feeling empty inside. They often wondered if after they gained their quori, they would be able to understand themselves more. Standard practices of meditation and other rigorous training led Asari to obtain the same path of Ki like their parents and other various Kalashtars of their generation, with the hope their Ki and energy can adapt to the psionic powers they possess as Kalashtars.

Over time, Azari became to adopt their training and meditation into a form of dance, much like their mother. The Ehn’ha family were often performers for gatherings and meetings in not only their village during festivals, but were sometimes invited to perform in Illari for large venues involving even more higher ranking individuals. Asari would be considered the latest successor to the position of entertainment for most of their younger years. One of these groups would be the Eanna family - high class people originally from Uruk who now live in the main city. Vermillion Eanna and Desire Eanna were the head children, with Vermillion being another known performer and Desire often visiting the village of Uruk as the designated priestess to suppress the energy of the Shadowfell rift. Both Vermillion and Desire possessed powerful quori spirits named Ishtar and Ereshkigal - sister spirits who were typically nicknamed the sisters of heaven and hell. As a result, their family name as well as the respect people had for them were from the spirits and the power they possessed as a whole. They often interacted due to the constant performances and Uruk status reports of the Shadowfell rifts, with Azari having to speak to Vermillion the most. However, due to many of their personality differences, it was often difficult for them to get along. Vermillion was typically teasing and often trying to get Azari upset for the sake of entertainment, using her position of a higher ranking person to stop Azari from doing anything reckless unless they wanted to get into trouble.

Azari spent a few years as a reliable performer in Illari, partnering up with other troupes here and there, and sometimes gaining solos. They eventually were invited to dance a duo with another Kalashtar called Dakota, who housed the quori spirit Enkidu. Dakota’s natural patience and willingness to cooperate with them despite Azari’s stubbornness and otherwise difficult personality caused them to soften up a bit. They couldn’t find any ways to really be upset at Dakota, and often found themselves going back to the smiling Kalashtar whenever they needed to perform, or just to hang out. It was a first for Asari, being able to have the realization that they care for Dakota so closely like a friend.

Some time later, Azari was being called back to Uruk to complete the ritual to bond with a quori spirit and continue the bloodline. The Eanna family was also invited to participate despite Azari’s initial reluctance, but had to give in from not being able to act otherwise against their ranks. It was an elaborate ritual that caused Azari to be dressed in delicate clothing and golden jewelry, with many other Kalashtars there to meditate and pray upon the heavens when it began. Azari was nervous, despite all the preparations they had done to lead up to this moment. The ritual at its peak, Azari felt pieces of their soul separate, reconnecting and bonding with another spirit, and the first dream began.
